UPDATED June 4: The School Reform Commission voted Friday to put Creighton in the hands of Universal, which already operates other former district schools. The SRC chose Universal over a proposal by the Creighton teachers to let faculty lead the school's turnaround.

Officials in the School District of Philadelphia have turned down a proposal by Creighton Elementary School teachers to lead the school's turnaround instead of placing the school in the hands of a charter company.

The teachers were given a chance to put their plan together when Creighton was added to the list of four elementary schools to be converted to charters.

Though the district has rejected the plan, the School Reform Commission will have the final say today on who will run Creighton. It's likely to be Universal Companies.
