A Taste of Kensington

Eat, drink, and celebrate! Join Greensgrow Farms, Philly’s nationally recognized urban farm and garden center, at “A Taste of Kensington,” a unique event in support of the Greensgrow Community Kitchen, an incubator space for local food entrepreneurs that since 2011 has helped over 75 local food visionaries turn their dreams into reality.

For one exceptional evening, the urban oasis of Greensgrow Farms will be transformed for more than 300 guests, featuring live entertainment, a silent auction, local libations and culinary dishes reflective of Kensington’s expansive and award-winning food scene. Favorite local chefs will provide samples of signature dishes, including farm-to-table hors d’oeuvres from the Greensgrow Community Kitchen. Philadelphia Brewing Co. will be pouring its outstanding brews alongside Rowhouse Spirits’ signature cocktail.

Inaugural awards will be presented to two Philadelphia visionaries:

● The Food Innovator Award to Paul Kimport, co-owner of Johnny Brenda’s (Fishtown) and Standard Tap (Northern Liberties), for his dedication to using food to build stronger, healthier and happier communities. Influenced by his grandparents who were farmers, Paul’s restaurants use pure, wholesome ingredients mostly from area farms, local vendors, and Philly beer and spirits makers.

● The Green Innovator Award to Onion Flats, local pioneers in sustainable design and real estate development, for their dedication to green practices. For over twenty years, Onion Flats has pushed the boundaries of sustainable urban development with the first LEED Platinum projects and, more recently, Pennsylvania’s first Passive House project. Their work throughout Philadelphia -- including the Rag Flats units in Kensington -- inspires all of us to do our part to help the environment.

General Admission tickets (7-10 PM) are $55. VIP tickets are $85 and include a one-hour exclusive reception starting at 6 PM during which guests will sample ciders from Kensington’s blossoming cider scene, have an exclusive opportunity to meet restaurant professionals from Greensgrow’s acclaimed local culinary partners, learn from Martha’s Head Bartender Mike Landers how to mix a refreshing Greensgrow-themed cocktail using farm-fresh seasonal ingredients and Rowhouse Spirits, and enjoy a cooking demonstration by Fette Sau’s Executive Chef Reinaldo Alfonso.
